An imagining of the Holy Spirit

Colossians 3: 12-17

In this passage Paul says to show others compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience. Paul continues by saying to forgive one another, and to “clothe yourselves with love,” and “let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts.” In this Christmas season we are particularly aware of the need to show compassion and kindness to others, and we work to fulfill this charge through outreach programs such as the Angel Tree and the Druid Hills gift bags, as well as personal acts of kindness and love. However, as I read this passage I reflected on how well I meet this charge in my personal relationships and on a day-to-day basis throughout the year. Paul’s charge is one not just for the Christmas season, but an ongoing directive on how to live our lives “in the name of the Lord Jesus.”

PRAYER: Dear Lord, help me to live with love and the peace of Christ not only today but every day, and to show others compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience throughout the coming year. Amen.
