Children (infants through age 10)
Since our church’s founding in 1955, children have been central to the life of our congregation. We value children and take great care of their emotional and spiritual development, as well as provide support for parents.
There are many activities and events that the children of NDPC enjoy:- Sunday School (every Sunday, September – May; 9:30-10:30 am). There is experienced care for infants and toddlers, and curriculum classes led by volunteer teachers for each age group (2-4 yr. olds, K-2nd grade, 3rd-5th grade). Our curriculum is Seasons of the Spirit, a wonderful set of lessons that emphasize Biblical Study with practices of spirituality.
- Worship includes children. All children attend the beginning of every worship. Each Sunday before the sermon, children up to age 6 are invited to come forward for their own “Word in Worship,” led by lay members or staff. These child-friendly messages focus on the scripture of the day or the season of the church year.
- After Word in Worship, children under 6 are led to the Sunday School classrooms for “Extended Session,” a time of supervised play, which continues until the end of worship. During the summer (June-August), the same structured playtime is offered during worship.
- Music is an important part of the life of children at NDPC. Each Sunday, Clint Miller, our minister of music, leads the children in music at the beginning of Sunday School. There is also a children’s choir which will meet from 5:30-6:30 on Sunday evenings beginning in the Fall of 2011. The children participate in the leadership of worship by singing several times throughout the year.
- Various events throughout the church year include children, such as Christian Education Sunday in late August, our Advent Celebration and Christmas pageant in December, and special projects to raise money for the Heifer Project, the Initiative for Affordable Housing and other agencies in our community.
