The auction could not have been more successful! Good food, lively conversations, friendly bidding, incredible deals, and festive entertainment by the youth and our auctioneer extraordinaire all made for a lively time this past Sunday. Your generous and creative donations of services and treasures as well as your magnanimous bidding not only built the Mayan pyramid, bringing us to our goal – we surpassed it! In total we raised a little over $14,000, which will fully fund the youth mission trip to Guatemala. We’ll also be able to buy more desks and supplies for the school we will be working with. That’s as impressive as the Mayan pyramids themselves!

Thank you for showing up, for contributing donations, and for generously supporting the youth with your giving. That’s some good stuff!

How do you normally get to church? On Sunday, April 22, we invite you to try something different, as you are able, to reduce your impact on Creation.

Do you drive alone? We will help you find a carpool partner. If your family already makes up a carpool, are you able to walk or bike all or part of the way? Is public transit an option for you? Maybe you could hit the sidewalks and walk to church. Using public transit (especially on a Sunday, when buses and trains are infrequent) may help you better understand the situation of transit-dependent neighbors, as well as avoid the impacts associated with your car trip.

Here are some great ideas that take you beyond Alternative Transportation Sunday:

Participate in a weekly car-free day. Take one day, or part of one day, each week to reduce your number of car trips. Are any of your regular errand destinations accessible on foot or via bicycle? Get creative: could you find that sixty minutes in your schedule by swapping it with a trip to the gym?

Find a New Local Vendor: Transportation impacts on Creation come not only from how we get around, but also from how far all the stuff we consume travels to get to us. You probably already know that the average American meal travels 1500 miles to reach your table, which is part of what inspired the NPDC garden and the new Community Supported Agriculture program. Look for ways you or your family can shop closer to home at stores which stock local.
