Lent 2020 Schedule

Ash Wednesday – February 26th

  • 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. – Ashes by the Fire Pit – Drop by to sit by the fire on the patio in front of the church; talk with others, burn in the fire the things that God is asking you to let go. This time is designed to be welcoming for children to learn about Ash Wednesday and the season of Lent
  • 7:00 p.m. – Meditative worship with extended silence and the imposition of ashes. Children are welcome
  • 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. – Just Neighbors -Kickoff of Wednesday evening collaborative Lenten gatherings with Episcopal Church of the Holy Cross; Dinner at 6:30 p.m. @ Holy Cross.

Lent 1: Sunday, March 1 – The Mercy of God

Spiritual Act of Mercy: Speak boldly 

Embodied Act of Mercy: Visit the sick

Wednesday, March 4th @ Holy Cross; led by Revs. Patterson and Lewicki

  • Dinner at 6:30 p.m.
  • Getting to know one another by reading Scripture together; introductions
  • What is a “neighbor?”
  • What is “justice?”

Sunday, March 8th, Lent 2: “God is Merciful” 

Spiritual Act of Mercy: Learn and teach the faith.

Embodied Act of Mercy: Feed the hungry and give drink to the thirsty.

Wednesday, March 11th @ Holy Cross

  • Dinner at 6:30 p.m.
  • Play, based on the life of WEB DuBois

Sunday, March 15, Lent 3: “We are called to offer mercy”

Spiritual Act of Mercy: Comfort the afflicted

Embodied Act of Mercy: Clothe the naked

Wednesday, March 18th @ NDPC

  • Dinner at 6:30 p.m.
  • Story Circles (Facilitator: Kelly Craigmile)      

Sunday, March 22, Lent 4: “Forgiveness of Sins”

Spiritual Act of Mercy: To bear wrongs patiently and forgive offenses

Embodied Act of Mercy: To accompany the imprisoned

Wednesday, March 25th @ NDPC

  • Dinner at 6:30 p.m.
  • Our shared history in DeKalb County

Sunday, March 29th, Lent 5: “Forgiveness of Debts”

Spiritual Act of Mercy: To encourage the doubtful

Embodied Act of Mercy: To shelter the homeless

Wednesday, April 1st @ NDPC

  • Dinner at 6:30 p.m.
  • Story Circles (w/Kelly Craigmile)

Saturday, April 4th (optional; $30/person)

  • Visit to Legacy Museum and Lynching Memorial Montgomery, AL
  • Charter Bus will leave NDPC at 8 a.m.; returns at 8 p.m.

Palm Sunday, Lent 6: April 5 “Sacrifice”

Spiritual Act of Mercy: Pray for the living and the dead

Embodied Act of Mercy:  To bury the dead.

Maundy Thursday – April 9 – In parishes and at NDPC (evening)

Good Friday – April 10 – 7 p.m.

Wednesday, April 8th or Wednesday, April 15th

  • Follow-up: working together on justice issues in DeKalb County with Just DeKalb

Easter Sunday – April 12 – “What Now, Death?”
