Community Ministry Committee

The mission of the Community Ministry Committee is to provide the NDPC congregation with specific opportunities to respond to and serve the sick, poor, hungry, homeless, and others in need.

Current Service Opportunites

  • Druid Hills Community Dinner: Join a group of volunteers and cook an assigned portion of the meal or help serve dinner to 35-60 homeless or needy guests the third Sunday evening of June, August, October and December.
  • Village Initiative: Help give a party and build community for families in the transitional housing program of Initiative for Affordable Housing.
  • Common Ground Lunch: Help prepare lunch for those living with HIV/AIDS the first Friday of the month.
  • Hagar’s House: Help cook or serve a meal for the guests and overnight volunteers at Hagar’s House, a shelter for homeless women with children. May 17-23, July 19-25, September 20-26, or November 15-21.
  • Initiative for Affordable Housing: Volunteer for a wide range of activities for homeless and low-income families.
  • Decatur Emergency Assistance Ministry (DEAM): Bring food to donate to the food pantry on the first Sunday of every month.
  • Gulf Coast Rebuilding: Help rebuild homes in New Orleans through Presbyterian Disaster Assistance. Adult work trip November 8-14, 2009.
  • Transitional Housing Support Team: Work with Decatur Cooperative Ministry to provide friendship and support for the families in our two transitional houses.

Financial and other support to the following programs:

  • DEAM (Decatur Emergency Assistance Ministry: provides financial assistance and a food pantry for emergency needs of those in the Decatur area)
  • Decatur Cooperative Ministry (Hagar’s House for homeless women and children, Project Take Charge for financial counseling, emergency assistance, and a family transitional housing project)
  • Initiative for Affordable Housing (help for families needing low-income and transitional housing)
  • Our House ( day care for children of homeless families)
  • Clifton Sanctuary Ministries (shelter and transitional housing for men)
  • The Open Door (meals, showers, clothing, sandwiches and toiletries for those in need, and ministry to those in prison)
