This week in worship, we will celebrate the liturgical observance of Baptism of our Lord Sunday. This day marks the event of Jesus’ baptism in the Jordan, but it also offers us a moment to pause as we remember our own baptism. In those sacramental waters, we are grafted into the family of faith, forever marked and claimed as God’s own beloved child, beautiful in God’s sight. Sunday’s scripture text, from the book of Isaiah, reminds us that everyone whom God created is invited into the family of God, gathered together from the ends of the earth to share a common vision of justice and love. We are thus called forth from the baptismal waters to God’s justice and love for the world. Join us this week as we renew our own baptismal vows and journey together to the waters.
