Radical Discipleship

The early church had radical ways of living their faith. They shared their wealth and possessions as they set up and participated in an alternative economy. Was this just a Utopian vision inserted into the story or a true and practiced radical notion of discipleship? Is there anything radical about discipleship in the 21st century?
