Worship this Sunday is at 8:45 and 11AM.

Divine Will, Human Action

The third Sunday in a 4-week sermon series on the Book of Ruth. Ruth is one of the rare ancient stories in which women drive the story–their dreams, their hopes, their struggles are the focus. Ruth is a story that lifts up the virtue of loving kindness as the most important aspect of life. But the story also shows us how our decisions to be kind to others are shaped by our social location and our self-interest (whether they also meet our personal needs for love, attention, sex, and approval). Ruth is a place to reflect on how the personal is political, a place to question whether structural social change is possible through the amplification of acts of kindness, and a place to wonder how and whether God’s love moves through flawed people.
