8:45 AM – Contemplative Worship Service (every 4th Sunday of the month)

Holy Week and Easter at NDPC

Please make plans to join NDPC for Holy Week. Holy Week is the most significant, most dramatic time in the Christian year. In worship, we remember the story of Jesus’ final days–how he arrived in Jerusalem, triumphant and being hailed as the new king. But resistance was strong, and by Thursday Jesus had been betrayed. He sat with his friends and ate a final meal, imploring them to love one another. On Friday, Jesus engaged the power and principalities who tried, tortured, and killed him on a cross. On Sunday, his most devoted followers rose early to anoint his body in its grave… and they discovered the grave empty.

Holy Week is one worship service, in four movements.

  • Sunday, March 24th, 8:45 & 11AM – Palm Sunday procession at both services; cut flowering branches from your neighborhood and bring them to worship to line the path of our parade; Gate City Brass will lead the music
  • Thursday, March 28th – Maundy Thursday, 6:30PM – we gather in the Sanctuary to wash one another’s feet; then we move to the Fellowship Hall for a dinner together, as we hear Jesus tell us to “love one another.” RSVP Today.
  • Friday, March 29th – at 9:30AM, we will meet for a Stations of the Cross walk from the Ebster Recreation Center in downtown Decatur to NDPC (about 2.5 miles); from 12 noon until 7PM, the Sanctuary will remain open for a meditative experiential self-guided Good Friday liturgy. Please sign up to serve a shift as a host for Good Friday.
  • Sunday, March 31st – 7AM Sunrise service at Decatur Cemetery; 8:45 & 11AM – Easter Sunday worship
